Cobalt at The Times Cheltenham Science Festival
David Willetts, MP, Minister for Universities and
Science, will be finding out what local medical charity
Cobalt has to offer at The Times Cheltenham Science
Festival on Saturday, 11 June at 2.00 pm.
The Charity, working in partnership with Philips Healthcare and
the Science Festival will present 'Brain Scan: Live' when they
will be scanning a volunteer - live. Using state-of-the-art
MRI technology based at Cobalt's Cheltenham Imaging Centre,
Prof. Mark Lythgoe and Dr Derek Jones will look into the brian via
live link from the Imaging Centre into the Town Hall and will
demonstrate how our brains work.
'This is a fun way of informing the public about
the science behind modern MRI scanning and how if affects our
everyday lives. It explores the things that matter to you and
your family - like health, nature and technology', says Sharon
Bishop, Executive Director of The Times Cheltenham Science
Festival.
Peter Sharpe, CEO of
Cobalt, comments, 'Cobalt is very excited about being part of the
Festival. We want people to see the work we do with cutting
edge technology to diagnose and plan the treatment of many
conditions. We also want to demonstrate how this technology
can make a signficant contribution in the diagnosis of cancer and
other life limiting illnesses.'
The Charity's involvement in The Times Cheltenham Science
Festival is part of their wider education work with doctors,
healthcare professionals and the public, ensuring that 47 years
of experience in diagnosis, screening, research and cancer
prevention are shared.
