Heart Mind & Body Scanner Appeal

This September, local paper The
Echo helped launch the Heart, Mind &
Body Scanner Appeal. Cobalt, working together with
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust needs to
raise £1m to fund a specialist CT scanner for the
benefit of patients throughout the county. What is CT -
Find our more The scanner will be the only one of its
type in the region with the ability to revolutionise the diagnosis
of heart disease, stroke, cancer and other life-limiting conditions
and will be sited at Cheltenham General Hospital.
Benefitting more than 12,000 people a year, the scanner will aid
rapid and accurate diagnosis of a wide range of conditions in
addition to those above; brain pathology, traumatic injuries
and circulatory problems amongst them. Perhaps you or someone
in your family will know one of these 12,000 local people.
Quick and detailed imaging is key to diagnosis, leading to
appropriate treatment of all conditions. It is
particularly vital for stroke patients and those with acute chest
pain or potential heart attack, for whom time taken in diagnosis is
a critical factor.
HEART- Speed and accuracy of each scan will
change the way heart attacks are diagnosed and help more
people survive
MIND- Fine detail imaging will aid rapid
diagnosis, limiting the damage caused
by a stroke
BODY - The same speed, detail and accuracy will
lead to fast diagnosis of cancer and other life-
limiting conditions
Community fundraising, legacy pledges and
trust contributions mean we have
now raised over £870,000 of the £1million needed by
summer 2012. We still need more people to support us.
