June is Male Cancer Awareness Month …..

1 in 3 men will get cancer and prostate cancer is responsible for a ¼ of all male cancers diagnosed.  Lung and bowel are the next most common and the 3 together cause ½ of all cancers diagnosed in men.  Testicular cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in young men aged 15-49.

We want to ensure embarrassment no longer discourages men from discussing and resolving problems with intimate parts of their bodies by encouraging them to recognise early warning signs of cancers that may affect them.  Cobalt recognises the importance of this and is offering free talks in places of work, leisure and schools/colleges/universities.  It is a fact that more men could survive these cancers if they changed their attitude and went to get checked out early when treatment would be more effective.

As the start of Male Cancer Awareness Month we want to look at Testicular Cancer; please click the links to the right for more information, inlcuding the true story of James Matthews', a young man from Cheltenham, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2011, aged just 22.  You may also have noticed Jame's story in The Gloucestershire Echo on Tuesday 4th June, 2013.
