A Vintage and Country Extravaganza will be held on Friday 4 to Sunday 6 August at South Cerney Airfield.  Proceeds from the event will go to a number of good causes including Cobalt.  Highlights will include a fly past by the RAF Air Events team and free vintage bus rides around the venue.

Hosted by the Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club the event is now in its 43rd year and promises to be one of the biggest and best countryside events in the UK.  The show will feature an impressive display of classic cars and a model aircraft flying display, hundreds of trade stands and plenty of other highlights with fun for all ages. Admission will be from 10am to 5pm daily.  Day tickets start from £7, £4 for juniors, under- fives go free.  Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.  For more information or go to  http://www.glosvintageextravaganza.co.uk/

Julia Jenkins, Head of Fundraising, Cobalt said ‘We’re very excited about the line-up of events this show has to offer and are very grateful for the generous support  Stroud Vintage Transport and Engine Club are giving us.  The money raised will go towards the purchase of a new MRI scanner for our imaging centre in Cheltenham’.

The new scanner the charity is investing in has been designed with a much wider bore.  Patients will be able to personalize their experience by selecting a video theme. The video theme is projected onto the wall and viewed whilst the patient is inside the scanner via a mirror.  The patient can listen to sound through headphones.  There will also be ambient lighting in the scanning room to create a more relaxing and comfortable experience for patients and the scanning times will generally be shorter.

Cobalt supports cancer patients throughout their journey by helping them to receive a timely diagnosis using state of the art scanning equipment. These scans provide doctors with vital information about the extent of the disease prior to treatment; and later to assess whether the treatment is working effectively, which ensures patients are accessing the best possible personalised care. Cobalt also provides research, training and education for medical professionals to learn more about the latest techniques and advancements and to share knowledge and best practice, improving care for patients.
