Staff at Nationwide building society, Cheltenham Branch team will swap their branch office for the great outdoors on Sunday 18 June as they take part in the Cheltenham Challenge. The team will be lacing up their trainers for local medical charity Cobalt to help raise funds for a new high definition MRI scanner.

The team have set themselves a demanding £10,000 target between now and October and plan to take part in challenge events as well as volunteer for the charity.

For Rebecca Stone, Mortgage Consultant, Nationwide, it will be her first ever running event. ‘I’m hoping to get round the course as best I can. Our team varies in levels of fitness but we thought the challenge was a great one as it’s local and easy to do as a team. Many of us have experienced the impacts of cancer through friends or family and the money we raise will help Cobalt buy a new MRI scanner for the Imaging Centre in Cheltenham’.

The scanner the charity is buying has all the latest software to ensure they can continue to offer the very best high definition specialist images for clinical and research patients now and well into the future.

In addition to the new scanner the charity wants to be one of only a few centres in the UK to offer an ‘in bore’ patient experience system. This system aims to reduce anxiety and enable patients to select a relaxing environment of their choice before their scan, including soothing video images, access to reassuring communication throughout the scan and reduced noise from the scanner. All of this can help patients to relax and keep as still as possible in comfort to ensure the best possible images are captured.

Kirsty Bradbury, Fundraising Engagement Officer, Cobalt said ‘The team have already raised over £2000 which is fantastic. Challenge events are a great way to raise money as a team because everyone can get involved and the Cheltenham Challenge caters for people of all abilities’.

The branch have more fundraising ideas up their sleeve including cake sales, an indoor long distance cycle challenge and a quiz to involve other local businesses.
