Throughout April, local solicitors across Gloucestershire are donating their expertise free of charge to write or update straightforward Wills. In return their clients can choose to make a donation to Cobalt.
Making a Will brings any outstanding affairs into order yet is often a task that many of us put off. Make a Will Month is about highlighting the importance of making your wishes known whilst helping a local charity.
All you need to do is ring up for a pack or download one from here along with a voucher to redeem at the solicitors. Then choose and book an appointment with your preferred participating solicitors. Suggested donations are £100 for a single Will and £150 for mirror Wills. The suggested donations are significantly less than the average costs of making a Will.
Helen Tomes, Supporter Relations Officer, Cobalt said “Since the scheme began in 2011 over £100,000 has been raised from solicitors waiving their fee. The donations we receive will be put towards our pioneering imaging centre, supporting patients with cancer, dementia and their families.”
Legacies have enabled Cobalt to fund some life changing services and equipment over the years including:
• a cutting edge PET/CT scanner for the Cobalt Imaging Centre, providing faster, safer and clearer scans for a patients
• funding for a new Teenage and Young Adult Cancer nurse
• provision of training and education for the public and health care professionals
• contribution to local, national and international cancer and dementia research programmes
It pays to plan ahead and spend a little time prior to your appointment with the solicitor to make sure you are well prepared for the meeting. Think about what you want to discuss. Have to hand basic personal details and proof of identity. List information about specific gifts and their recipients, detailed instruction regarding provision for children and pets, personal wishes such as funeral plans and organ donation.
