County solicitors raise £10,000 for Cobalt
19th July 2019
A recent campaign with the support of county solicitors has raised over £10,000 for Cobalt. Our Make a Will Month generated over 100 appointments through the support of local solicitors Willans LLP, Harrison Clark Rickerbys and Davis Gregory solicitors all of Cheltenham, Langley Wellingtons LLP and Dee & Griffin Solicitors of Gloucester, DF Legal LLP of Stroud and Sewell Mullings Logie LLP of Cirencester. The solicitors all donated their expertise free of charge to write or update straightforward Wills. In return clients could make a donation to Cobalt.
Making a Will brings any outstanding affairs into order yet it is often a task that many of us put off. Make a Will Month highlighted the importance of making wishes known whilst enabling people to help a local charity.
Life changes such as moving in with a partner, buying a house, getting married, divorced or having children can be a catalyst for many people to write a Will or make changes to one. However, many put off the task because it’s not a nice topic to think about. Leaving a gift to a charity is a pleasant aspect that can make people feel good about what can be perceived as quite a morbid task. These types of schemes are increasing in popularity. A recent consumer poll* found that 40% of people now say they would be happy to leave a gift to charity in their Will, up from 35% in 2008.
Helen Tomes, Supporter Relations Officer, Cobalt said “In the 10 years since the scheme began, over £110,000 has been raised for Cobalt. The donations we have received will be put towards our pioneering imaging centre, supporting cancer and dementia patients and their families.“
