Dave “The Hair” Burley’s double marathon return leg for Cobalt
6th October 2020
Adventurous charity supporter Dave Burley will repeat the 52 mile run he last did back in 1984 for Cobalt but on two wheels this time. Although still a keen long distance runner, aged 73, Dave will attempt the route by bike this year starting out at Malvern College and travelling through Upton-on-Severn, Ashton-Under-Hill and Pershore, returning to his home in Malvern on Saturday 10 October.
Dave started supporting Cobalt back in the 1980’s when a member of his local church youth group received treatment for cancer. Last year he clocked 2 hours and 21 minutes in the Cheltenham half Marathon and has racked up over 500 miles fundraising for us.
Dave has run 10 London Marathons, Bristol Marathon three times over as well as marathons in Malvern and Cheltenham.
Dave Burley said “I remember my first race, I both ran and walked it. Friends, family and fellow traders have been amazingly generous over the years, regularly donating. Donations both great and small have spurred me on to complete these races that have challenged me both mentally and physically. Due to organised events being cancelled this year it seemed the perfect opportunity to revisit that race I did all those years ago”.
Kirsty Bradbury, Support Engagement Officer, Cobalt said: “Dave is famous for wearing his Tam o’ Shanter, a traditional Scottish bonnet and over the years has raised thousands of pounds for the charity. Please support Dave in his adventure and help Cobalt support local people suffering with cancer and dementia and other conditions.”
Making a donation will help to fund our work to support local people across the three counties with cancer and dementia and other conditions.
