A donation of up to £25,000 has been pledged to give a kick start to Cobalt’s involvement with The Big Give – A national campaign of ‘match giving’ to charity.
The Big Give is a non-profit, charitable website which enables donors to support charity projects. Its main activity is online match funding. It is one of the largest online giving campaigns in the UK. The campaign launches on #GivingTuesday, 29 November from 12 noon until 12 noon on Friday 2 December.
Every donation given to Cobalt through www.thebigive.org.uk website up to £25,000 will be doubled making a fantastic £50,000 up for grabs.
Julia Jenkins, Head of Fundraising said “The money raised will contribute to Cobalt’s research projects. This includes a £2 million project which will provide a diagnostic imaging service for the new Institute of Translational Medicine (ITM) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site in Birmingham. This development will help to progress the very latest scientific research findings for a network of clinicians, academics and industry partners into enhanced patient care.
The MRI scanner will support wide ranging research including cardiac, liver, oncology and neurosurgery. Research is essential to progression of both diagnosis and treatment. From bench to bedside, this will help introduce the latest imaging techniques into routine clinical imaging for local patients. Thanks to the pledge, a fantastic £50,000 will be up for grabs – however as this is a match funding initiative we still have to raise £25,000 of the target.
Cobalt is also in partnership with 2gether NHS Foundation Trust to conduct research into Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. This included how to diagnose dementia at an early stage and assessing potential methods of treating dementia.
