How small amounts can make a big difference to local charities
10th September 2018
We are taking part in Remember a Charity in your Will Week, from 10 to 16 September, an annual campaign designed to highlight the importance of making a Will and the value of gifts to charities.
The theme for the week this year is “pass on something wonderful” and an innovative charity-powered search engine called Human has been created to bring it to life. The public will be able to select from over 100 questions and hear directly from charities including Cobalt’s Medical Director, Iain Lyburn. The search engine launches on 10 September. The public can also search for local solicitors who are able to offer them advice on writing wills and giving to charity by typing in their postcode on the website https://www.rememberacharity.org.uk/making-a-will/find-a-solicitor/.
The campaign aims to show how charities are addressing so many important issues and how by leaving just a small gift in your Will to a cause you support can make a wonderful difference and help charities continue their vital work.
35%* of people say they would consider including a gift to charity in their Will with only 7%* actually doing so. This small percentage raised over £2.8 billion last year, the equivalent of 36 Red Nose Day appeals.
Helen Tomes, Supporter Relations Officer, Cobalt said: “There is huge potential for an increase in income from gifts in Wills. People often think you need to be wealthy to leave a gift in your Will to help us but after taking care of family and friends, even a small amount can make a big difference.”
