Local solicitors Thomson & Bancks raise over £1,800
6th September 2017
Local solicitors Thomson & Bancks and charity supporters have raised over £1,800 for us by donating their fees and time to charity in return for writing Wills. Thomson & Bancks Solicitors have been supporting Make a Will month fundraising campaign for six years. Since the campaign began six years ago, £77,000 has been raised with the support of solicitors across Gloucestershire and £14,000 was raised this year.
As well as being able to support charity, making a Will makes it much easier to make sure your wishes are carried out in the event of your death. Important times to consider making a Will are when getting married, divorced, buying a house and if you have children or others financially dependent on you. A Will sets out how your money, possession and property should be distributed when you die. It can also help reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable on the value of property and money you leave.
Jemma O’Connor, Private Client Lawyer, Thomson & Bancks Solicitors said “You may assume that everything you own at your death will go to your husband, wife or partner, or perhaps you believe you have nothing to leave anyway. The fact is, without a Will, the Intestacy Rules say who gets what and put simply your property may not go to those who you wish to receive it. If you make a Will you can be sure your wishes will be followed after your death whilst potentially saving tax at the same time.
Helen Tomes, Supporter Relations Officer, Cobalt said “We have been delighted by the support of Thomson & Bancks . We are currently raising money to buy a new MRI scanner for our imaging centre in Cheltenham, so the money raised will be well spent. The new scanner and the room will be designed to create a more relaxing and comfortable experience for patients. Patients will be able to select ambient lighting, video and sound experience”.
