Cobalt Lung Cancer CT Screening Service

Cobalt Lung Cancer CT Screening Service

Cobalt works in partnership with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Siemens Healthineers to provide the first commissioned lung cancer screening programme in the UK.

The service is delivered through a purpose designed mobile CT, which houses the first Siemens Healthineers go. CT technology. With the Somatom go.Up CT scanner, radiographers can spend most of the time with the patient – providing higher efficiency, greater patient comfort, making the patient the centre of the whole examination. The scanner provides true ultra-low dose CT making it a perfect solution for screening.

This new initiative enables people who are at a higher risk of lung conditions to be tested using diagnostic imaging for lung cancer and other respiratory conditions at a much earlier and more treatable stage.

A mobile clinic has been designed to enable a full lung health check to be provided in various community locations across Manchester. This includes full IT integration access to the Trust’s IT systems and the secure transfer of CT images.

Cobalt can support a range of lung cancer screening configurations, from providing a mobile CT with ultra-low dose, to a full integrated clinical solution in a community setting.
