FUNdraising event to say thank you to two local cancer charities

Imagine being given a cancer diagnosis in the height of lockdown. A diagnosis at any time is devastating but during the pandemic, the emotions and issues were heightened as no visitors were allowed into hospitals and treatment was faced without loved ones near. Claire Charlton went through major surgery for bowel cancer in January 2021, followed by chemotherapy and surgery for secondary liver cancer in 2022.  This month, Claire is putting on a fundraising event to raise money for the two charities that helped and continue to support her.

The FUNdraising event will include music, a fashion show by independent women’s store Bodega, a raffle and an auction. It will take place on Friday 23 June from 6pm to 8pm at Home & Botanic nightclub in Cheltenham. Tickets are priced at £15, which includes a glass of fizz on arrival and club entry.

Cobalt provided the diagnostic scanning facilities including CT, MRI and PET scans that Claire went through whilst Macmillan helped fund a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Oncology as well as the Next Steps programme that helped her with post surgery physiotherapy and personal training.

Claire said, “This event is my way of thanking everyone who has helped me and hopefully raise funds to help these charities continue their amazing work for other patients. Please support my Big Thank You”.

An online auction is taking place (currently live) with exclusive prizes including: 18 Holes at Bowood Golf course for 4 people, two tickets for Reading festival, Cheltenham Racecourse – Two tickets for the races, Ellenborough Park  afternoon tea for Two voucher, a bespoke occasion cake and Isle of Wight Ferry Crossing and much more. A raffle will be held on the night.  All auction and raffle items have been generously donated by local businesses and individuals. Bids can be made for the online auction here until Friday 23 June.

Jane Shorting, Owner, Home & Botanic nightclub in Cheltenham said “We are very excited to be supporting Claire in her fundraising efforts for these two wonderful charities. Please support the event or online auction.“

Julia Jenkins, Head of Fundraising, Cobalt said “Supporters like Claire fundraising for Cobalt enable us to continue to invest in the very latest diagnostic equipment allowing us to give patients the opportunity to have an earlier and more accurate diagnosis and support through their treatments”.
