What is a diagnostic scan?
A diagnostic scan is a type of test ordered by medical professionals to help them to diagnose patients conditions, check how effective certain treatments are and plan appropriate treatment. The different types of diagnostic scans Cobalt offer are MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) , PET/CT (Positron Emission Tomography/Computerised Tomography), CT (Computerised Tomography), Cone Beam CT, X-ray and Ultrasound.
We scan over 75,000 patients a year at Cobalt Imaging Centre in Cheltenham, the ITM Imaging Centre in Birmingham and through our fleet of modern mobile MRI units.We enable patients and hospitals nationwide to access the latest diagnostic imaging services.
We will provide you with all the information you need prior to your visit, including any special instructions required to prepare for your particular scan, what to bring on the day and how to find us.

Clinical quality assurance
Cobalt were the first imaging service to meet the standards of the Imaging Services Accreditation Scheme (ISAS). ISAS was jointly developed by the Royal College of Radiologists and the Society and College of Radiographers. It is independently assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
