3rd July 2017

Highnam Court’s stunning gardens will be open for a Rare Plant Fair on Sunday 23 July from 11- 4pm. Admission will be £5.00 per adult, with under 16’s free.  Rare and unusual plants will be on offer from specialist nurseries across the country including three from Gloucestershire.  It’s a great opportunity to see this fine estate and support local charity Cobalt who are raising money for a new MRI scanner.

Highnam Court is a grade I listed country house in Gloucestershire.  The property was constructed in the 17th century during the Commonwealth period, after the original house was seriously damaged in the Civil War.

The Highnam Estate was bought in 1838 by Thomas Gambier Parry, who was an accomplished artist, musician and art collector.  He started to lay out the garden in 1840, and by 1874 it rivalled any in the UK.

For the last 20 years Roger Head OBE has been the owner and lovingly restored the grounds and the house to their former glory.

Kirsty Bradbury, Fundraising Engagement Officer at Cobalt said “We are delighted to have been given the chance to hold an open garden in Highnam Court. Proceeds from the day will help us towards buying a new MRI scanner.  There will be light lunches and cream teas served by our volunteers in the Orangery and the chance to buy interesting and unusual plants and get advice from growers.”

The Rare Plant Fair takes place at Highnam Court, Highnam, GL2 8DP from 11am-4pm and is one of 14 fairs they are holding throughout the year. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a short lead.
