Delivery day for Cobalt

On Saturday 7 June Cobalt saw the carefully co-ordinated delivery of three new scanners for two key current projects. The launch of another NHS Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Corbett Hospital Outpatient Centre in Stourbridge and the upgrade replacement of our 3.0 Tesla research MRI scanner at the Cobalt Imaging Centre which supports the Institute of Translational Medicine (ITM) in Birmingham.

The NHS national CDC programme aims to enable patients to access a wide range of diagnostic tests sooner and closer to their home and give them a greater choice about where and how they are undertaken, reducing the demand for hospital visits. The Corbett outpatient centre is the second CDC to be supported by Cobalt.

Cobalt’s Imaging Centre at the ITM is a joint venture with Birmingham Health Partners. It provides a high-quality imaging research service using a 3.0 Tesla Siemens MRI scanner with enhanced research capabilities. Currently the centre is participating in over 45 active trials across multiple specialties, including neuro, oncology, liver, cardiac and haematology.

Cobalt’s Director Clinical Operations, Karen Hackling-Searle said “These important deliveries demonstrate our commitment to provide sustainable, innovative equipment and services to meet the needs of local communities. We are proud of our ongoing collaboration with Birmingham Health Partners, supporting their delivery of groundbreaking research – helping patients now and paving the way for better outcomes in the future”.
