Cobalt is proud to support a new functional MRI programme benefitting patients undergoing epilepsy brain surgery. The new programme, which is undertaken during the course of the scan, enables accurate information and support for planning epilepsy brain surgery by mapping which side of the brain controls memory, and predicting if the operation will cause memory loss. Surgeons are therefore able to make informed decisions about how to proceed without affecting patients’ memory.
Our research imaging centre at the Institute of Translational Medicine supports Birmingham Health Partners, a NHS-University Alliance.
Richard Wilkes, MRI Research Superintendent, Cobalt said “We're proud to see the launch of new memory functional MRI paradigms from Nordic Neuro Lab. The ITM Imaging Centre team played a key supporting role in this collaborative project with Dr Vijay Sawlani, Professor Neuroimaging and Consultant Neuroradiologist, and colleagues at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, helping to develop tools that will support functional imaging worldwide. A fantastic achievement showcasing the impact of partnership, innovation and translational research.”
